Suzana Szörenyi International Duo Competition 2019 has the following sections:

  • Piano Duo Four Hands
    • category A
    • category B
  • Piano Duo Two Pianos
  • Duo Voice - Piano
  • Duo Hobby
    • category AMATEURS - designates an ensemble in which both partners are amateurs
    • category MIXT - designates an ensemble consisted of a professional and an amateur

The term AMATEURS designates competitors who are not enrolled in a form of accredited musical education. A graduate of a musical higher education institute cannot be enrolled in the Amateurs category.

APPLICATION RULES

Suzana Szörenyi International Duo Competition 2019 is open to participants of all nationalities.

The registration deadline is July 1, 2019.

Registration for all Competition sections will be submitted online by filling in the Application form on the contest site:

The application documents to be uploaded for each duo member are:
- a short curriculum vitae
- a copy of the birth certificate and an identity document
- a recent photo of each duo member
- a proof of studies: diploma or student certificate
- for amateur competitors in the Duo Hobby section a self-declaration of each individual contestant, stating that he/she is not enrolled in a form of accredited musical education.
- a proof of payment of the registration fee
IMPORTANT:
Application documents must be accompanied by an uploaded 10-15 minutes video recording, containing a registered repertoire, free choice.

Video recordings will be uploaded unlisted on Youtube, and the link will be included in the application form in the appropriate box.

Each piece must be recorded in a single take (no editing). It is strongly recommended that the candidate’s face should be visible at all times and that the camera angle should be fixed.

It is also strongly recommended that the sound should be recorded professionally.

The works performed and recorded for the video preselection may be included in the program for the Competition rounds.

Exceptions to this preselection are the competitors enrolled in the Piano Duo Four Hands section - category A and in the Duo Hobby section.

Admission to the competition will be based on these video recordings, which will be assessed by the Jury. The results of the pre-selection will be announced till July 25, 2019 on the Competition site. Subsequent, selected contestants will receive via e-mail the confirmation of Competition participation.

Pianists have the opportunity to enroll simultaneously in several sections of the Competition. In this case, a different registration form will be filled in and the corresponding participation fee will be paid for each section.

By filling in and submitting the Application form, each candidate confirms that he agrees with the Competition Rules in all their details. The Romanian version of the Competition Rules prevails for all interpretations.

By completing and submitting the Application form, the competitors agree with the audio and video recording of the Competition rounds and give the assignment for related rights to the organizers.

Registration fee is 160 Euro plus bank charges for each duo.

The payment of the Registration fee in euro (or the equivalent in Lei at the NBR exchange rate on the day of payment) is paid into the account:

For Category A of the Piano Duo section - four hands the application fee is 140 Euro plus bank charges for each duo.

For the Duo Hobby Section the application fee is 120 Euro plus bank charges for each duo.

IMPORTANT

For all sections of the competition where the registration fee is 160 Euro plus bank charges per duo, candidates enrolling before 2019, June 1st will receive a 10% discount resulting in a registration fee of 144 Euro plus bank charges per duo.

The fees and bank commissions will be paid by the participants so that the amount of the registration fee remains intact.

The participation fee is not refunded in case of elimination after the pre-selection, in case of withdrawal or in case of non-submission to the contest.

The accommodation and transport of the Candidates will be on their own expenses. (see Useful Information).

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS

Competition entry is made in the order established by the draw of lots.

Upon request, the organizers will set the order of entry into the contest taking into consideration the religious confession of some competitors.

Participation of the finalists at the Prize Gala is mandatory.

JURY

The Jury decides the winners for each section of the contest.

The decisions of the Jury are irrevocable.

The Jury reserves the right not to award all prizes or to supplement the number of prizes awarded (as the case may be) in each section.

The total prizes amount is 30,000 Euro taxable amount.

For each section or category, except for Duo Hobby, the following prizes are awarded:

SPECIAL PRIZES
Award for best interpretation of a lied on lyrics by a Hungarian poet, sung in Hungarian, awarded by the Balassi Hungarian Cultural Institute in Bucharest
Pascal Bentoiu Award for the best interpretation of a Romanian lied awarded by the Union of Composers and Musicologists in Romania

Section DUO HOBBY
This section includes two categories:

DUO HOBBY AMATEURS – both partners are amateurs
DUO HOBBY MIXT – an amateur and a professional

For both categories of this section, the following types of duo are allowed:

Piano Duo Four Hands
Piano Duo Two Pianos
Duo Voice - Piano
Duo Piano - Other Instrument

For this section the competition has a single round.

This section is without age limit.
